Visual Artists

For the past 46 years we have lived, worked and often exhibited together as two visual artists who happen to be married. Painting has been and is our work and creative expression that comes from a wondrous balancing act of nature, relationship, children, community, travel, spirit and more.

Bringing art and people together is an important aspect for us, for it is essential in the feeling and knowing of human wholeness. We honour the triangular relationship between the viewer, the painting and the artist. In this context, our years of annual Open Studios, Gallery Exhibitions and Art Expos, present a welcome opportunity to reaffirm this special connection with the public as points of collective celebration and access to our creative spaces, processes, lives and art work.

From extensive journeys throughout Asia, Europe, The Americas, North Africa and the Middle East, artistic exposure and years of internal wanderings, our life experiences have been instrumental in our self evolvement as artists and form a rich wellspring for our present creative explorations and expressions. After many years as Ontario based artists, in l987 we moved with our two children, to British Columbia and set up our studios and gallery in our home in West Vancouver.  We continue to exhibit annually in Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver.

MONICA SHELTON, born in Chile in l949 and immigrated to Canada in l967, paints in acrylic on canvas & mixed media. Member of the CSPWC.
“My imagery is grounded in the natural world and aims to expand feelings and thoughts beyond the finite into that which simply is, thereby experiencing new insights into the nature of reality.”

BARRY SHELTON, born in Toronto, in l949, paints with acrylic on canvas or wood panel.
“My paintings are poetic maps of the human journey - of awakening - that utilize symbols and metaphor, abstraction and realism to celebrate beauty and transcendence in both its aspects of light and shadow. “
